Lexus South African Menswear Week is Africa’s only stand-alone platform dedicated to the development and promotion of menswear within the African continent. Taking place twice a year in Cape Town, South Africa, SAMW aims to provide a world-class platform for menswear designers and brands to showcase their latest collections. A series of shows over four days, only the best of menswear is invited to be on the schedule each season.
The goal is to be the leading platform in terms of innovation, trends, production and most importantly, the promotion of our designers. It’s about building credibility for the platform that will enable designers to grow their businesses.
Curated by leading industry experts, our panel selects and invites the best of established and upcoming designers to participate each season. Coupled with the best show producers on the continent, and innovative event management, from PR through to venue selection, SAMW aims to provide the necessary platform for our designers to get the exposure they require in order to grow their businesses.
Modelled heavily on the world’s leading platform, London Fashion Week Men’s, SAMW takes place each season within interesting, unexplored settings, with show spaces seating no more than 400 people, and clean, simple show production with nothing to detract from the clothing. Our partnership with the platform will also see leading SA designers eventually showcase in London, both as a drive to build exports, but also more importantly awareness of these brands back home in South Africa.
“South African Menswear Week is the continent’s most credible fashion week platform, and combined with the goals of the promotion of South African designers, both locally and abroad, is ushering in the next wave of truly mega labels. People are already asking for, and buying, young designers such as Lukhanyo Mdingi, showing the new “pull model” implemented by SAMW leaves other platforms in the stone ages.” – WWD
Partnerships with the City of Cape Town and the South African Fashion Council ensure that our platforms and designers are credible, and have access to further opportunities these partnerships can offer in terms of development and promotion.
After 3 successive seasons in the Cape Town Stadium, SA Menswear Week continues our original vision, to hunt out unique, cool and interesting spaces to host our seasonal collections. The Palms in Woodstock, a vibrant destination housing decor, design, fashion, interior and PR agencies to name but a few of their clients had the right feel, and most importantly, an incredible empty space that could be used for the AW17 collections.
Moving to The Palms, head of South African Menswear Week, Simon Deiner had the following to say, “I’m excited that we’ve found such an exciting space. It reminds me of our original SA Menswear Week vision of hosting the shows in spaces that people would generally not associate with a fashion week home”. And on a closing note, Deiner adds, “It’s always important to ensure that what we do works for designers and guests, and this time I think it really excels in both fronts. Not only are we in one of the coolest areas of Cape Town, but our showspace concept is fresher and more globally relevant than ever before”.
SA Menswear Week will take place from Friday 03 February to Saturday 04 February 2017 at The Palms Lifestyle Centre located at 145 Sir Lowry Road, Woodstock, Cape Town – www.menswearweek.co.za
