In March 2017, Greenpop will be hosting its 7th annual Reforest Festival in the ancient Platbos Forest Reserve. But this isn’t just your ordinary festival! It is a chance to (re)connect with yourself as well as your fellow humans and with nature. Festival goers can help plant thousands of trees, dance to amazing live music, learn from eco-workshops and also eat delicious food and much more.
TREES, TREES & MORE TREES: With more than 8 000 trees to be planted over the two weekends, the environmental initiative aims to revive the indigenous arbour of the Platbos Forest near Gansbaai – deforestation, neglect and invasive alien species have rendered the forest unsustainable – and help the area reclaim its allure as a natural retreat sought after by those looking to escape the push and pull of the city.
AWESOME ACTIVITIES: Aside from tree planting, festival-goers are invited to a fun-filled weekend of camping, great tunes, good food, morning yoga sessions, forest walks, talent shows and, of course, cool vibes! While the outdoor affair starts on Friday evening, little is planned for the night so as to safely spare festival-goers’ energy. For the rest of the weekend, treevolunionaries can look forward to yoga, forest walks, talks and more on the agenda.
FAMILY FEST (10-12 MARCH): While both festivals are the same for the most part (and kids are welcome at both), the focus on entertainment is slightly different. The family fiesta has more of a relaxed vibe and includes more kid-friendly activities, including guided forest walks, a talent show and so much more.
FRIENDS FEST (17-19 MARCH): The Friends Fest is a little more of a jol in the jungle, with live music carrying on into the wee hours of the morning. Festival-goers can help to plant trees in the badly damaged areas of the Platbos Forest and experience some of Cape Town’s finest musos and live DJs bringing thumping beats for a fun-filled eco-celebration.
Festival of Action, Zambia (25 JUNE – 16 JULY): Every June/July, the Greenpop Zambia Festival of Action in Livingstone brings people together from around the globe to learn, connect, give back and get active.
It is an action packed 3 weeks: planting trees, growing food forests, building using eco-methods, setting up recycling systems, brightening up schools with eco murals, attending sustainability workshops, celebrating with live music and more. It’s an adventure for active citizens who want to change their world.
